Mesa, AZ

We arrived at Mesa Regal on Friday, Feb. 4, discovered that their sites are just barely long enough for our rig but very narrow with grapefruit trees to maneuver around and very narrow streets that do not permit maneuvering with the truck. After attempting to get into one site for over an hour, scratching the RV side and back, we asked for a different site. It turned out to be only slightly better and with the help of a neighboring fifth wheel owner and all the neighbors to cheer us on, we were able to settle into this site.

Since then, we've celebrated Judy's birthday, spent several evenings playing games and watched "The King's Speech" at the theater, all with John's sister and her husband.

One of our favorite things about Mesa is Superstition Mountain Ranch Market, which sells a wide variety of fruit and veggies at terrific prices. John's sister has orange trees, which yield the most flavorful fruit that they graciously share with us.

This weekend was the annual VNLA Book Sale, which benefits several local charities. We picked up some great buys on Saturday.

For any fellow campers, we would not suggest Mesa Regal, due to the general unfriendliness of the staff and residents, the small sites and difficulty accessing them, and plethora of extra costs charged over and above the high rent, and advanced age of residents. Last year we found Valle Del Oro to be friendlier, more helpful staff, more class opportunities, with younger, friendlier and more active residents. Additionally, the staff helps you park in their sites, which have palm trees to maneuver around.

Mesa is enjoying beautiful weather in the 70's and 80's this week with lots of sunshine and cool nights.
