Choctaw Lake @ Tombigbee National Forest

As with many of you, we have been experiencing the storms of spring lately. During our stay at Choctaw Lake Campground in the Tombigbee National Forest near Ackerman, MS, we had tornado warnings. The Park Host suggested we all congregate in the concrete and steel bathroom/shower building. It was an interesting few hours with several fellow campers, about a dozen kids, and several dogs seeking safety from their tents in the single stall and shower building. The adults brought beer and cigarette "support".
Luckily, the series of storms passed over us, leaving us unscathed except for our new memories of local campers.

The lush forested campground is located beside a lovely lake, which sports boardwalks and a gazebo. We discovered, to our dismay, that there was virtually no connectivity for our aircard or cell phones. As is always the case when we camp around trees, there was no satellite tv, poor antenna tv reception and no radio. These things wouldn't have been so essential if there hadn't been severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings and watches.

We had the campground to ourselves for most of our stay and enjoyed the quiet peacefulness.
