Grants Pass was our next stop, we spent a week enjoying the slightly cooler temperatures and even had a brief rain shower. Grants Pass is an inviting town on the Rogue River, with several murals, beautiful historic homes, an artsy downtown and friendly people. Our RV park was in town so we walked to the grocery store, the visitor center, and had a great meal at the restaurant next door.
Grants Pass was home base for our day trips. At Crescent City, on the California Coast, we enjoyed a picnic near the Battery Point Lighthouse.
We strolled through the majestic redwood groves in the Jedediah Smith State Park, discovering how quiet it is to stand in the burned out center of a giant tree.
The day we drove to Crater Lake was picture perfect. Half of the perimeter road was closed due to remaining snow, roof high drifts leaned near the visitor center and blanketed the surrounding mountains, closing most of the trails.
